FLUX is pleased to present INTO MY SEA, an exhibition of ceramic works by Sandy Simon and Robert Brady. Partners in life as well as artistic collaborators, Simon and Brady have influenced and inspired each other in their individual artistic endeavors for much of their careers.

Sandy Simon, a studio potter, was a student of Warren MacKenzie in the 1970's. She has taught and exhibited extensively and owns a ceramic gallery called Trax in Berkeley, CA. Her work, mainly utilitarian, exudes a warmth and comfort without sacrificing sophistication and elegance. Spontaneity accompanies precision as minimal forms created of white porcelain and green glazed earthenware are accented with subtle incisions, piercings, wire loops and rings, and at times brushwork done by Robert Brady.

Robert Brady began his career as an artist making pots. Pottery led to ceramic sculpture and eventually Brady began to explore other media, most notably wood. Although he continued his work in clay, Robert Brady has become widely known as a sculptor, exhibiting nationally and internationally in galleries and museums, and is included in many public collections. A very prolific artist, Brady moves freely between media imparting/imprinting his unique style on both wood and clay with equal facility. Whether applied to a wheel-thrown bowl, teacup, figure or abstract sculpture, his use of color and bold imagery create compelling works. Robert Brady is currently Professor of Art at Sacramento State University.
